  • What are the dates of the Berkeley Academy?

    A. Teachers are required to be available to work from June 2 to July 26, 2024.
  • Do I need to be an education major to apply?

    A. No. We encourage students from all majors to apply to the Berkeley Academy. As our current and previous teachers will tell you, the mentorship and training in leadership, communication and team-building you receive at the Berkeley Academy will help prepare you for your chosen career path.
  • What are the hours of the Berkeley Academy?

    A. Berkeley Academy teachers are at school from approximately 7:45 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. Most teachers also take work home in the evening and are also asked to stay late for all Berkeley Academy evening events.

  • Will I receive a stipend for my work in the Berkeley Academy?

    A. Yes, all teachers will receive a generous stipend for their work in the summer.
  • If I do not live in Tampa, is housing provided during the summer?

    A. Yes, a limited amount of housing is available.  Please be sure to indicate on your application your need for housing.
  • What is the program’s curriculum?

    A. The Berkeley Academy curriculum was written by experienced Berkeley teachers in conjunction with Hillsborough County Public Schools. You will work with your Instructional Coach to learn how to present the material in a manner that feels comfortable to you and complements your personality.
  • How will I learn how to teach?

    A. All Berkeley Academy teachers will participate in a two-week orientation program prior to the scholars arriving. Teachers will also receive regular professional development throughout the program.  Moreover, each teacher will be teamed with an Instructional Coach who will help implement effective and engaging classroom lessons.
  • How can working in the Berkeley Academy help prepare me for my future career?

    A. The mentorship and training you will receive at the Berkeley Academy are unparalleled, rigorous and highly rewarding. Not only will you leave the Berkeley Academy with highly transferable skills, but you will also join a team deeply committed to helping you further your career goals.
  • Is it possible to enroll in summer school or work at another part-time job while teaching at the Berkeley Academy?

    A. No. Teaching at the Berkeley Academy requires a full-time commitment.
  • How old do I have to be to apply to be a teacher?

    A. We are seeking teachers who are currently in college, or have recently graduated.  However, If you have volunteered with or worked in the Berkeley Academy in the past, you may be eligible to apply for a Berkeley Academy teaching position.  We also have several volunteer positions that may be filled by Upper Division students.
